Artist statement:
Aaron Phifer
Art is not just some pointless pen strokes, paint, and objects thrown together into an odd looking piece like some people may think. Every piece of art has a certain design that the artist has in mind. Whether it is the way everything flows in the piece, or color choices. The design of the art has an important role in visual effectiveness. If nobody had any concept of design, there would be no art. Everything would be jumbled together and not look pleasing to anybody. Design can be seen everywhere. One of the major reasons why some businesses are successful is because of their design of their logo or building. One example of this is Coca Cola's logo. Design is vital in luring people into buying products. The central idea in my art is not just design, but connection. Connection is communicated through my art in the following ways. First, flow is created in the work Gravitaional through the red shapes. The way this piece has connection is by the way all of the objects start to flow around a central point while blending together. Second, in Deception, the connection is shown in the size of the pencil. The pencil is repeated but made smaller in order to make the piece look three-dimensional. This way the pencils look connected while they seem to go back into the paper.
